If you are afraid of going to the dentist, we offer several types of sedation dentistry to relax you. For your comfort, we provide complimentary inhaled sedation and also offer oral conscious sedation (in the form of a pill). If you need a deeper level of relaxation or want to have several longer procedures done in only one or two visits, we can relax you with IV sedation.
Our dentist is awesome and does amazing work on me and my husband. He is very friendly and so is the entire staff. The receptionist are so kind and thoughtful and always make me feel so welcome when I come in for my teeth cleaning. I grew up in Richardson and went to elementary, junior high, and high school in Richardson. I graduated from Pearce High School, and I graduated from SMU, which is here in Dallas, and then graduated from Baylor Dental School, which is here in Dallas, so I've never left this place.
Oh, I graduated from SMU in '84, and I got out of dental school in '88, right after we came out of the death penalty with football, and I became involved with the SMU Athletic Department just doing dental treatment for their athletes and coaches and anybody else from SMU that wanted dental treatment, and both of my kids go to SMU. My daughter's going to graduate from SMU next month, so we have a family history with SMU now.
Dr. Rick Barfield decided as a boy that he would be a dentist when he grew up. After his childhood dentist piqued his curiosity about working on teeth, Dr. Barfield was determined that he would have his own practice one day, where he could help people create better and healthier smiles. He was the first person in his family to become a dentist.
A native of Richardson, TX, Dr. Barfield went to J.J. Pearce High School and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in psychology. Since receiving his DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree from the Texas A&M University College of Dentistry, he has been providing trusted dental care in the Plano, TX area for more than 30 years.
Dr. Barfield is married to his high school sweetheart, and they have two children. When hes not practicing dentistry at 1st In Smiles, he can be found participating in community events, fishing, hunting, or riding a motorcycle.
Full of Southern charm and a positive attitude, Tiffani is a dental assistant who makes sure you are relaxed and comfortable at our 1st In Smiles office. When shes not checking up on our patients to make sure their visits are as pleasant as possible, Tiffani can be found reading or taking advantage of our sunny Texas days on restaurant patios.

I had my front teeth knocked out in basketball in high school and I have had three capped and one false tooth for years. Every time I smiled, I was at least conscious of the fact that probably someones looking at the top of my teeth because they just didnt fit right, the metal that attached to the roots, you could see it. It was embarrassing sometimes but I was always self-conscious of it and I never had a dentist who could make it look right and I finally went to Dr. Barfield and its just perfect, they are just perfect. They look like absolutely natural teeth. No one knows so I smile a lot more. If you want to cure a problem youve had for 30 years, Dr. Barfield is the guy to go to.
