What is a
pediatric dentist?

General or "family" dentists see patients of all ages and have earned either a DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) or DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree. Pediatric dentists must go through an additional post-graduate residency program for additional 2-3 years after earning their DMD or DDS degree. During this program, they will learn about pediatric dentistry in-depth, with a focus on subjects like pediatric sedation, children’s orthodontics, and even things like child psychology and development. Just like a pediatrician is a medical doctor specific for children, a pediatric dentist is a dentist specialist for children and adolescents. You can think of a general dentist as the dental equivalent of a Primary Care Physician (PCP).

Dr. Kwak is specifically trained and certified as a pediatric dentist to provide the highest quality oral health care for your children.

Why is board certification important?

Not all pediatric dentists are certified by American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). The ABPD board certification indicates that a pediatric dentist has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary 2-part examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills, and experience requisite to the delivery of quality patient care.

Dentists certified through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) hold the highest possible credentials within the field of pediatric dentistry. Dr. Kwak strives to provide the best oral care for your child and this board certification is a testament to his dedication.
