How to Become a Dental Assistant (DA)

DA's acquire training in one of two ways:

  • Full time traditional schools:
Courses are 12 to 15 months; mostly classroom teaching. Students hardly get any clinical experience. In fact these schools request local dentists to place their students in their offices for clinical experience at the end of their extended programs. We believe these courses are unnecessarily extended and emphasize mostly on didactic theoretical (book) work.

Or

  • Courses held in dental offices in small groups taught by a practicing dentist or registered dental assistant. Training includes ALL HANDS ON with REAL DENTAL PATIENTS. The training is provided by the Board Certified Dentist or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) who understands the role of a Dental Assistant in relation to the Dentists' and the patients' needs. This is real PRACTICAL TRAINING in an actual dental office, given by the practicing dentist or the registered dental assistant.

In real working situations in dental offices, all of the work is hands on. This option of teaching is becoming more popular as it recognized as the most effective way of learning and applying the essentials of Dental Assisting.
