Our Services

 Oral Examinations

This exam is performed at your initial dental visit and again at your subsequent check-ups. A comprehensive dental exam is a very thorough look at all the contributing factors to your overall oral health and will include all the following main points:

Digital X-Rays

  • Our offices are equipped with the highest quality digital equipment available. By examining the x-rays your dental team can detect decay, bone loss, tumors, cavities, cysts, and numerous other dental situations, while helping the team map tooth and root positions. This x-ray also allows greater interaction between and your doctor. Instead of your dental team telling you about the situation, they can show you on computer screens exactly what they are talking about.

Oral Cancer Screening

  • Your team will check for signs of oral cancer in your mouth, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums. This is a painless and quick process.

Gum Disease Screening

  • Your hygienists will check your gums and bone around your teeth for signs of periodontal diseases. This is done by using a periodontal probe, a tiny measuring stick, to measure the space between your tooth and the gum tissue that surrounds it. Typically healthy gums have pockets depths that measures from 1 to 3 millimeters, anything over 4 millimeters is not healthy. Bigger numbers usually indicate areas of infection that need treatment.

Examination for Tooth Decay:

  • Each surface of every tooth is checked for decay.

Examination of Previous Work Done (Existing Restorations):

  • Our team will check all your fillings, crowns, bridges, and any other existing dental work.

Dental Hygiene

A professional dental cleaning at least twice a year can improve your oral health. During a dental cleaning, you’ll receive diagnostic and preventive services from your dentist as well as any needed educational information.

Diagnostic services may include:

  • Reviewing and updating medical history, including information about heart problems, pregnancy, diabetes and medications, which may have an impact on your oral health

  • Oral cancer examination and screening

  • Evaluation of gum tissue

  • Checking biting, chewing and swallowing patterns

  • X-rays or examination of teeth to detect decay

  • Referral to specialists for specific treatment

Preventive services may include:

  • Removal of plaque and tartar

  • Stain removal

  • Fluoride application

  • Sealants (for children)

  • Polishing teeth, including fillings and crowns

  • Cleaning and adjustment of dentures and partial dentures

Educational services may include:

  • Tooth brushing and flossing instructions

  • Nutritional counseling

  • Recommendations for future treatment: when to return for follow-up hygiene treatment, periodontal (gum) concerns or restorative options

  • Evaluation of self-care effectiveness

  • Tobacco-cessation counseling

Dental Fillings

What is a Filling?
A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. The dentist will use a composite resin for restorative material to mimic the same color of natural tooth structure.

Crowns, Implant Crowns
and Veneers

A dental crown is a tooth shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape and size, increase strength, and improve your appearance. We also use crown to cover a dental implant and to make a cosmetic modification (veneers).

Partials and Dentures

A removable partial denture usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base called Valplast (metal free). In certain cases it is connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth are missing.

Implant Overdentures

Overdentures offer superior replacement teeth solution to traditional dentures for many patients. Overdenture works with dental implants and are used to replace single and multiple missing teeth. Overdentures can be removable or fixed and rest directly on the gums supported by implants. They can also be attached to a bar which connect to the implants. This is the most stable option as they feel and function the most like natural teeth.

Teeth Whitening

ZOOM! In-office whitening

ZOOM! is a revolutionary brightening system that uses LED light advanced technology to combat everyday staining from sources such as coffee, tea, wine, and cigarette smoke. Our specialists can help instantly brighten your smile up to eight shades lighter, with little to no inconvenience to you, in just an hour and a half.

Procedure

Our specialist will start by photographing your smile and checking the current shade of your enamel so we can provide you with before and after results of your teeth whitening. Next, a barrier will be placed on your lips and gums to protect your soft tissue. Once the barrier is complete, we will place the peroxide based gel in a thin layer on your teeth and then the laser ZOOM! light will be placed in front of them. Each cycle will be 15 minutes long, and depending on your sensitivity level, we can perform up to four cycles.

How long will the results last?

The longevity of the results depends on the individual and their everyday habits. Natural aging, smoking, coffee, and tea are just a few reasons you may have developed the staining to begin with. To prolong results, we offer a touch up at home whitening option as well and recommend avoiding staining foods for as long as possible.

I have been a patient of Dr. Maria Di Benedetto for about twenty years. In that time my wife, children and I have received  excellent dental care. Dr. Di Benedetto and her staff have taken wonderful care of my children who are now 13 and 20 years old and who had been seen by her since they were toddlers. I can't say enough about their professionalism, caring and compassion.

I would highly recommend Smiles of Winchester!
