How Do Dental Implants Work?

The dental implant process requires oral surgery, and is usually performed while the patient is sedated. During surgery, the dentist will drill a small hole in the jawbone and carefully screw the base into the bone. The gum is then placed over the implant so that it can heal.

How Painful is a Dental Implant?

We’ve seen that every patient reaction and pain tolerance is different but from experience, most patients have little to no discomfort. You can expect to feel minimal pain when receiving a dental implant. dental implant requires that your dentist make incisions in your gums. How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

Several studies indicate the long-term survival of dental implants — up to a 20-year span. Whether the tests took a look at short-term or long-term use, dental implants were able to withstand up to a decade or more of stress. Crowns can often last between 10 and 15 years before replacement.

Suffering from Impacted Wisdom Teeth?

Your teeth may affect your entire body and healthy teeth can make you healthier. A missing or broken tooth may affect your speech, eating choices, and bite. As this also increases your dependence on the remaining teeth, the chances of their premature wearing out or damage also increase.

What are Impacted Wisdom Teeth?

Impacted wisdom teeth is a disorder where the third molars (wisdom teeth) are prevented from erupting into the mouth.

Completely unerupted wisdom teeth usually result in no symptoms, although they can sometimes develop cysts or neoplasms. Partially erupted wisdom teeth can develop cavities or pericoronitis.

Can Wisdom Teeth Cause TMJ Disorder?

Retaining wisdom teeth is one common cause of TMJ disorder. When wisdom teeth erupt, they normally cause occlusal issues because there is not enough room in the mouth for their arrival. As they crowd teeth, they will affect the way teeth make contact during oral function. Improper tooth contact during oral function can lead to strain and stress on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)

Can Removing Wisdom Teeth Help TMJ?

If you have TMJ disorder and your wisdom teeth, having these teeth removed can improve your occlusion and take strain off your TMJ—especially if you receive orthodontic treatment afterwards to realign your teeth. Keeping your wisdom teeth can lead to other oral health issues as well so removing them is beneficial to your well-being.

How are Wisdom Teeth Removed?

During wisdom tooth extraction, your dentist or oral surgeon:

  • Makes an incision in the gum tissue to expose the tooth and bone.  Removes bone that blocks access to the tooth root
  • Divides the tooth into sections if it’s easier to remove in pieces.  He/She then cleans the site of the removed tooth of any debris from the tooth or bone
  • Stitches the wound closed to promote healing, though this isn’t always necessary.
  • Places gauze over the extraction site to control bleeding and to help a blood clot form
How Many Days off for Wisdom Teeth Removal?

Many people take 2 days off work, including the day of the operation, while others take 3 days, particularly if they have had several teeth removed at the same time, and/or had a general anaesthetic
